Have you ever thought about what God is really like? On occasion, I think about it. Nothing in depth but just simple thoughts of what He would be like if I met Him in person.
I see Him as loving and compassionate but also stern. I know that He loves me and wants the best for me. But sometimes I doubt that I am worthy of these things because of choices that I make or have made in the past.
The characteristics that we ascribe to God will greatly have an impact on how we respond to Him.
