My one devotional this morning was talking about releasing offenses. Ephesians 4:31–32 was used as a reference. As I read the devotional, I realized that I am still holding on to a lot offenses. It is creating bitterness and unforgiveness in my heart which has created a separation between me and the Lord. I know that I continue to hold onto some of the offenses because of pride. I feel justified in continuing to say that the person who offended me is wrong. Even if they are, I need to forgive them and let God handle them.
I felt the Lord wanted me to share this with you so that maybe you can take time to examine your own heart. Are there any offenses that you continue to hold onto? If you look deeper, has your unforgiveness caused you to move away from the Lord whether knowingly or unknowingly?
One thing to note: We can forgive someone but choose to set a boundary in our lives. This is especially true when that hurt continues to happen. God wants us to look at our own heart. He will deal with the other people.
Do not be bitter or angry or ·mad [raging]. Never shout angrily or ·say things to hurt [slander; insult] others. ·Never do anything [Get rid of all kinds of] evil. Be kind and ·loving [compassionate; tenderhearted] to each other, and forgive each other just as God forgave you in Christ.
